Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Great Escape Web Services (dba Tipoff) (“Tipoff”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when You use tipoffhoops.com (the “Service”). It applies only to the Service — not to third-party websites or services linked from it. By using the Service You agree to this Policy and to the Terms of Service.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information — your email address and a password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider), and your chosen role (player or organizer).
- Profile information you choose to add — name, gender, date of birth, phone number, a location (with approximate coordinates, used for features like nearby-tournament notifications), an avatar photo, and notification preferences.
- Tournament and team information— tournaments you create (name, description, location, photo, fees, schedule), teams you register, and roster entries. A roster entry includes each player's name and, optionally, email, phone number, and SMS opt-in choice. Captains adding players are responsible for having their consent.
- Payment information — payments are processed by Stripe. We receive and store transaction records (amounts, status, timestamps, and Stripe transaction identifiers) but never your card number. Organizers who collect entry fees provide payout details directly to Stripe through Stripe Connect onboarding.
- Technical information — cookies needed to keep you signed in, and standard analytics data (pages visited, approximate location, device type) collected via Google Analytics.
2. Information That Is Public by Design
Tipoff exists to publish tournaments. Tournament pages — including the tournament name, description, location, photo, schedule, bracket, scores, team names, and player names — are publicly visible, as are player profile pages showing game history and stats. Player email addresses and phone numbers are not publicly visible and are not accessible through our public data interfaces.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide the Service: accounts, tournaments, registration, brackets, schedules, and payouts.
- To process payments and refunds through Stripe.
- To send transactional communications — for example password resets, registration confirmations, and (if you opt in) SMS game reminders.
- To understand usage and improve the Service (analytics).
- To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We may use aggregated or anonymized data — from which personally identifiable information has been removed — for any purpose.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run the platform on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payments), Twilio (SMS delivery), and Google (analytics). Each receives only what it needs to perform its function.
- Organizers— when you register a team or join a roster, the tournament's organizer can see your registration details, including roster contact information, to run their event.
- Legal requirements — if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Tipoff or others.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to You.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text-messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
5. Cookies & Analytics
We use strictly-necessary cookies to keep You signed in. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage of the Service; Google may set its own cookies. You can limit analytics with browser settings or Google's opt-out tools.
6. Retention & Deletion
We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to operate the Service, resolve disputes, and meet legal and financial record-keeping obligations. Completed tournament results (brackets, scores, standings) are part of the historical record of an event and may remain public. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by emailing support@tipoffhoops.com; we will honor the request except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business records (for example, payment records).
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls, and row-level database security — to protect your information. No online service can guarantee security, and You share content through the Service at your own risk.
8. Children
Accounts are for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. A captain or organizer who adds a minor to a roster is responsible for having a parent or guardian's consent. If You believe a child's information was provided to us without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Policy by posting a new version on this page; the new version takes effect when posted. Material changes will be announced by email or through the Service.
